Napster Wishes they had This Problem

While Napster fights the record industry, leading Napster competitor Gnutella is fighting its own battle – with Nutella, “the original hazelnut spread”. Ferrero, makers of Nutella (and my favorite, Rocher) has shut down the Gnutella.de and Newtella.de sites because of their similarity to their trademark. No word yet on whether they’ll go after the incredibly useful Gnutella.com site. Of course, there is no Gnutella corporate entity for them to go after, and none of the sites in question is an “official” site. The developers of Gnutella probably had the Nutella association in mind, as The Standard’s article mentions. Salon.com also seems to have predicted this in their illustration for this article back in September. Ferrero owns the domains nutella.de and nutella.com, but doesn’t appear to be doing anything with them.
