&lt;p&gt;My point was simply that while &quot;Blogs are not direct money makers&quot; is indeed the rule for a majority of existing sites, it&#039;s possible to make a business of it by creating a different kind of weblog.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The article I linked to did touch on this: &lt;i&gt;Only under very special circumstances will blogging directly generate cash&lt;/i&gt;. I&#039;m just talking about how to create those special circumstances.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Whether that&#039;s the best way to make money for any particular person depends on lots of things, so people should definitely look at the big picture and do what&#039;s best for them.&lt;/p&gt;

An amazingly large amount of people do not look outside their blog to make money - they think &quot;advertising revenue&quot; and their brain stops. This is the point I was making - always consider all of your options and look at the bigger picture.&lt;/p&gt;
